NSW police arrest man after breaking into government building at Cessnock

A man has been arrested after allegedly breaking into and damaging a government building in Cessnock yesterday.

Just after 5pm (Saturday 19 October 2019), it is alleged a man threw items towards the glass door of the Vincent Street building. It is further alleged he kicked the door until the glass smashed and he was able to gain access.

The man entered the building, causing minor damage inside the foyer, before leaving.

Officers from Hunter Valley Police District attended, and an investigation commenced.

About 5.40pm a 39-year-old man was located in a supermarket carpark and was arrested after a short struggle with police.

He was taken to Cessnock Police Station and charged with break and enter, destroy/damage property and resist police.

He was refused bail and will appear in Newcastle Local Court tomorrow (Monday 21 October 2019).
