NSW police charge man after SW Sydney pursuit

A man has been charged with drink driving following a police pursuit through Sydney’s south west overnight.

Just before 2am (Saturday 19 October 2019), officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were performing stationary RBT duties on the Princes Highway, Tempe, when a Subaru Forster was seen to suddenly turn into a side street.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle on Young Street; however, the driver failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.

The vehicle was pursued along the Princes Highway before turning onto the M5 and travelling westbound.

Road spikes were successfully deployed at King Georges Road, Roselands, and the vehicle stopped; however, the occupants refused to get out.

Officers forcibly removed the driver from the vehicle and following a struggle, the 23-year-old man was arrested and submitted to a roadside breath test, returning a positive result.

He was taken to Kogarah Police Station, where he underwent a breath analysis allegedly returning a reading of 0.060.

The Newtown man was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, drive with low range PCA, and resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.

He is due to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday 12 November 2019.

His interstate driver privileges were also withdrawn.
