A man will face court after allegedly entering a private property and shooting a cat while spotlighting in the state’s Murray River region earlier this year.
About 11pm on Thursday 1 April 2021, a 61-year-old man was at his rural property on Coldwells Road, Barooga with his wife, when the pair noticed a vehicle in their driveway.
The vehicle continued to the rear sheds, where the property owner observed a spotlight being used, before hearing two shots fired.
The owner located the family cat deceased two days later, as a result of being shot.
Officers attached to Murray River Police District’s Rural Crime Prevention Team were notified and commenced an investigation.
Following extensive inquiries, a 47-year-old man attended Mulwala Police Station, about 9am yesterday (Monday 27 September 2021).
He was arrested and charged with fire firearm onto inclosed lands, and unlawfully enter inclosed agricultural land – possess/discharge firearm.
The Yarrawonga man was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice to appear in Corowa Local Court on Wednesday 11 November 2021.
