A man has been charged following an investigation into an alleged shooting in Wollongong earlier this year.
Just before 9pm on Tuesday 24 March 2020, a 50-year-old man entered a stairwell of a unit complex on Market Street where he intended to visit a friend.
As he entered the stairwell, he was approached by two men who were armed with a hammer and firearm.
As the 50-year-old man attempted to walk past the pair, they allegedly assaulted him, before he was shot in the leg.
The two men ran from the complex and fled the scene in a vehicle parked nearby.
The injured man was treated at the scene before being taken to Wollongong Hospital for treatment to a bullet wound to his knee.
Officers from Wollongong Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Following extensive inquiries, a 21-year-old man was arrested on the Princes Highway at Albion Park about 3.35pm yesterday (Friday 12 June 2020) and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.
He was charged with discharge firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, in company assault with intent to rob while armed dangerous weapon and armed with intent commit indictable offence.
The man was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Bail Court today (Saturday 13 June 2020).
