A man will appear in court today charged over a spate of thefts from small businesses in the state’s south west.
Between Friday 10 January 2020 and Thursday 16 June 2020, a number of businesses on Sanders Street, Mackay Street, Jondaryan Avenue and Griffith Avenue, Griffith, and Yenda Place in Yenda, were broken into with cigarettes, electronic equipment and other items reportedly stolen.
Officers from Murrumbidgee Police District commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the break and enters.
Following extensive inquiries, police attended a correctional facility on Tuesday 14 July 2020 and charged a 25-year-old Yenda man with the following offences:
• break and enter (x9),
• aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company intend steal (x4),
• aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence,
• be carried in conveyance etc without consent of owner.
Police will allege in court that the man stole more than $44,000 worth of items from small businesses and service stations during this time period.
It’s further alleged the man caused more than $6,000 worth of damage to the businesses.
The man was refused bail and appeared in Griffith Local Court today (Wednesday 29 July 2020), where he was formally refused bail to reappear on Wednesday 12 August 2020.
