A man has been charged with 11 counterfeit money offences following an investigation into the use of counterfeit notes in southern NSW.
Between Monday 17 June 2019 and Monday 24 June 2019, a man attended retail and food stores throughout the Young area.
The man is alleged to have purchased low value items with counterfeit $50.00 notes in Australian currency.
The notes were later reported to police as counterfeit and an investigation commenced.
During a patrol of the Harden township, police identified a 40-year-old man who matched the description of the alleged offender.
Police searched the man and his vehicle and located one counterfeit note in the man’s possession.
A subsequent search was undertaken at the man’s home in Harden and items of interest were seized.
The man was taken to Young Police Station and charged with 11 offences from the Crimes Currency Act, including six counts of possess counterfeit money and five counts of utter counterfeit money knowing it to be counterfeit.
The man was released on strict bail conditions to appear before Young Local Court on Tuesday 16 July 2019.
Investigations are continuing into similar incidents in the Young and Yass areas.
