NSW police charge man with damaging statue in Sydney CBD

A man has been charged after a statue was allegedly damaged in Sydney’s CBD last night.

About 7pm (Thursday 18 June 2020), officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command were patrolling Hyde Park and were alerted to a man attaching a poster to a statue.

During a search of the man officers allegedly located glue, scissors, and additional copies of the poster.

The 51-year-old man was arrested and taken to Day Street Police Station where he was charged with destroy or damage property, found with intent to commit indictable offence previous conviction and, wilfully damage or deface any protected place.

He was refused bail to face Central Local Court today (Friday 19 June 2020).
