A man has been charged with drug offences following three search warrants in the state’s Riverina region.
Officers attached to the Wagga Wagga Region Enforcement Squad (RES) established Strike Force Alekseev in January this year to investigate the supply of prohibited drugs – namely cocaine, MDMA and cannabis in the Tumut and Wagga Wagga areas.
Following extensive investigations, RES officers – with assistance from Riverina Police District – executed a search warrant at a home on Hudson Street, Tumut, about 9.30am yesterday (Tuesday 16 August 2022).
During a search, police seized more than 30g of cocaine, and quantities of MDMA and cannabis, as well as 16 illegal fireworks.
A 27-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Tumut Police Station where he was charged with 14 offences:
- Supply prohibited drug (four counts),
- Possess prohibited drug (five counts),
- Handle explosive/precursor without authorising licence,
- Recklessly deal with proceeds of crime,
- Possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance (two counts), and,
- Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit.
The Tumut man was granted conditional bail to appear in Tumut Local Court on Monday 12 September 2022.
At about the same time, a search warrant was conducted at a home on Jillabean Close, Tumut, where officers located and seized prescription medication and a sum of cash.
A 29-year-old resident was spoken to by police at the scene and investigations are continuing.
Then, about 12.20pm yesterday (Tuesday 16 August 2022), a search warrant was executed at a home on Mackay Place, Ashmont, where police seized quantities of cocaine and cannabis, prescription medication and a sling shot.
Further arrests are expected.
