Seven people have been charged in the past week following investigations into a number of traffic and property-related offences in the state’s north east.
Operation Western Mongoose was established in April 2022, to investigate property offences, break and enters, and vehicle thefts throughout Oxley Police District.
During the operation, officers have arrested six teenagers – two aged 13,14, and three aged 15. All teens have been charged with various property and traffic-related offences and are due to appear before children’s court at a later date.
Additionally, about 4.30am on Friday (13 May 2022), a 21-year-old man was arrested at a home in South Tamworth, following a pursuit.
He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, and never licensed person drive vehicle on road.
The man was refused bail, to appear at Tamworth Local Court on Monday 23 May 2022.
Investigations will continue under Operation Western Mongoose.
Operation Western Mongoose consists of officers from the Proactive Crime Team, Detectives, Crime Prevention Unit within Oxley Police District, Western Region Enforcement Squad, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Youth Command and Dog Unit.
