NSW police charge teen after search warrants

A teen will face court today charged with firearms offences as part of ongoing investigations in the state’s north east.

Operation Western Mongoose was established in April this year to investigate property offences and vehicle thefts throughout Oxley Police District.

As part of inquiries, officers attached to Operation Western Mongoose executed two search warrants at homes in Cossa and Green Streets, West Tamworth, just after 9am today (Wednesday 31 August 2022).

Police located and seized an air rifle and mobile phones.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested at Green Street and taken to Tamworth Police Station, where he was charged with possess unregistered firearm-not pistol/prohibited firearm.

The teen was refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Wednesday 31 August 2022).

Investigations will continue under Operation Western Mongoose.

Operation Western Mongoose consists of officers from the Proactive Crime Team, detectives, the Crime Prevention Unit within Oxley Police District, Western Region Enforcement Squad, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Youth Command and the Dog Unit.
