NSW police charge teen with murder at Casino

A teenage boy has been charged with murder following the death of a youth and the wounding of another on the North Coast yesterday.

Emergency services were called to a fast-food restaurant on Centre Street, Casino, about 5.10pm (Sunday 29 May 2022), responding to reports of a brawl.

Officers from Richmond Police District attended along with NSW Ambulance and found youths suffering stab wounds.

A 17-year-old boy died at the scene; an 18-year-old man was taken to Lismore Base Hospital for treatment. He remains there in a stable condition.

A crime scene was established and forensically examined by specialist police.

Detectives from Richmond Police District formed Strike Force Meryta and commenced an investigation into the incident. Richmond PD detectives are being assisted by detectives attached to the state Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

Following inquiries, a teenage boy, also aged 17, was arrested on Diary Street at Casino at 7.45pm.

He was taken to Casino Police Station where he was charged with murder, reckless wounding, and affray.

The youth has been refused bail to appear at a Children’s Court today (Monday 30 May 2022).
