NSW police charge two after contraband investigation at correctional centre in Sydney’s north-west 10 July

Detectives have charged two people as part of an ongoing investigation into the introduction of contraband at a correctional facility in Sydney’s north-west, following the arrest of a corrective services truck driver earlier this week.

In May this year, detectives from the Corrective Services Investigation Unit commenced an investigation under Strike Force Cantrill following reports of corrupt activity by a male Corrective Services employee.

Following extensive inquiries, officers arrested a 37-year-old man during a vehicle stop at a correctional facility in Sydney’s north-west on Wednesday (8 July 2020).

He was charged and remains before the courts.

Following further inquiries, strike force investigators arrested a 32-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman at a home at Greystanes just before 8am today (Friday 10 July 2020).

Shortly after, officers, with assistance from the Dog Unit, executed a search warrant at the home and seized electronic devices.

The pair were taken to Granville Police Station, where the man was charged with corruptly give/offer to give agent benefit, participate criminal group contribute criminal activity, supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity) and supply prohibited drug.

The woman was charged with corruptly give/offer to give agent benefit, knowingly deal with proceeds of crime and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

Police will allege in court that the pair were involved in the supply of contraband to a Corrective Services NSW employee to be trafficked into a facility in Sydney’s north-west.

They were both granted strict conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday 4 August 2020.

Investigations under Strike Force Cantrill are continuing.
