Two men will face court today after leading police on a pursuit in the Sutherland Shire, allegedly ramming a police car before crashing into a garden.
Just before 5.30am yesterday (Saturday 27 April 2019), police responded to reports of possible attempts to steal an excavator and trailer from Cabramatta Street, Woolooware.
On arrival, officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command approached a black Holden Commodore, which was hooked-up to the trailer, and called for the two male occupants to stop the engine and get out of the car.
As one of the officers approached the rear of Commodore, the driver reversed the vehicle harshly; the senior constable jumped out of the way, narrowly avoiding being struck by the car.
While fleeing the location, the Commodore crashed into the police vehicle, causing major damage.
A short time later, a Highway Patrol officer attempted to stop the Commodore on Kiora Road, Miranda, and when the driver failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.
Police pursued the Commodore through Sylvania, and when the vehicle crashed into a garden in Camden Street, the occupants were arrested.
During a search of the men and their vehicle, police located cash, heroin, mobile phones, stolen registration plates, a stolen bankcard, and various breaking implements,
Both men were taken to Sutherland Hospital for treatment for the effects of drugs before being taken to Sutherland Police Station.
The 41-year-old male driver was charged with steal motor vehicle, use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, assault police officer in execution of duty, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, possess prohibited drug, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, two counts of goods suspected stolen in/on premises, and larceny.
The 38-year-old male passenger was charged with steal motor vehicle and possess housebreaking implements.
Both men were refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 28 April 2019).
