NSW police charge two over carjacking at Doonside

Two teens will appear in court today charged over an alleged carjacking and pursuit in Sydney’s north-west yesterday.

About 1.40am yesterday (Thursday 9 June 2022), a 42-year-old man stopped his Toyota Corolla on Perigee Close, Doonside, when he was approached and threatened by two males.

The pair took his car keys before allegedly getting in his vehicle and driving away.

About 3.20am, the Toyota drove into the carpark of a fast-food restaurant on the Great Western Highway at Lithgow, where one of the occupants got out and was involved in an argument with staff.

Officers from Chifley Police Area Command attended and attempted to stop the vehicle.

The Toyota fail to stop, and a pursuit was initiated, travelling to Leura where it was terminated due to safety concerns.

The burnt-out vehicle was later recovered after police and Fire and Rescue NSW responded to a fire at Lantana Place, Woodcroft, just before 5am.

Following inquiries, police arrested two teens, aged 17, at Doonside about 4.45pm. They were taken to Blacktown Police station and charged with robbery in company.

One was also charged with take & drive conveyance w/o consent of owner, and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal).

The other was also charged with be carried in conveyance taken w/o consent of owner, and police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously.

Both teens were refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Friday 10 June 2022).
