Police are appealing for information following a police pursuit and the discovery of a firearm on the Mid North Coast yesterday.
About 7.20am (Wednesday 4 March 2020), officers from the Mid North Coast Highway Patrol were on Giinagay Way, Nambucca Heads when they signalled for a Suzuki Vitara to pull over.
When the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated. It was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.
The vehicle was seen driving through the intersection of Marshall Road and Bellwood Road, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree.
The driver, and sole occupant of the car, then fled the scene on foot. Police, with the assistance of the Dog Unit, searched the area but were unable to locate him.
Following a search of the Suzuki, police located a single barrel shotgun, a gun belt and eight live 12-gauge rounds of ammunition. All items were taken to Macksville Police Station for forensic examination.
Police would like to speak to a man who they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.
He is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, 27 years old, 175cm tall, slim build, black hair and brown eyes.
