There were 327 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the Northern Territory in the 24 hours to 8pm on 15 January, 2022. Of these, 131 were positive cases from a Rapid Antigen Test.
This takes the number of active cases in the NT to approximately 4,000.
Five new cases have been reported in Yuendumu and a further six cases in Yuelamu overnight. Five new cases have also been reported in Amoonguna and three at Abbott’s Camp in Alice Springs. There are four cases in Galiwin’ku and two in Lajamanu. All cases and identified close contacts are in isolation. Further contact tracing is underway.
There have been a number of new cases in correctional facilities across the Northern Territory including one inmate in Alice Springs, one staff member at the Barkly Work Camp and three inmates in Darwin. All of these facilities have activated their COVID management plans and are in constant communication with NT Health.
Seven new cases have been reported in patients at the Alyerre Renal Hostel and one patient at the Topsy Smith Renal Hostel in Alice Springs. One new case has been reported at the Old Timers Aged Care Facility in Alice Springs.
There are currently 44 patients in hospital, with 13 classified as acute hospital admissions. There are no patients in ICU.
1,713 COVID-19 PCR tests were processed across the NT yesterday.
Alice Springs Lockout
Due to the high number of cases in the Alice Springs community including in high risk settings, a lockout will commence at 3pm today. The lockout will be in place for at least seven days, until 3pm on Sunday 23 January 2022.
In a lockout, those people who are fully vaccinated are able to live normally and access all services with proof of their vaccination status.
Those who are unvaccinated, including people who have received only their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, must stay at home for the lockout period and are only permitted to leave for the following reasons:
- Medical treatment, including COVID testing or vaccination
- For essential goods and services, like groceries, power tokens and medications
- For one hour of outdoor exercise a day within 5 km of your home with one other person or people from your house
- To provide care and support to a family member or person who cannot support themselves. In case of an emergency.
The lockout for Yuendumu, Yuelamu and Amoonguna has been extended until Sunday 23 January 2022.
Public health measures
To slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community and reduce the rate of transmission the following public health measures are in place across the NT:
- The Territory Vaccine Pass requires all people in the Northern Territory to show proof of their vaccination status to attend a range of businesses, venues, places and events
- A Territory-wide indoor mask mandate
- A lockout in Alice Springs, Yuendumu, Yuelamu and Amoonguna until 23 January.
COVID-19 testing
Everyone should get tested for COVID-19 if showing symptoms. A number of NT Rapid Antigen Testing and Distribution Points have been established. Individuals can collect RATs for free from NT distribution centres located in Darwin, Katherine, Nhulunbuy, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek.
