The Northern Territory is today reporting three deaths of people with COVID-19.
A male in his 70s from Darwin, who had underlying health conditions, passed away at Royal Darwin Hospital yesterday.
Two further two deaths were referred to the Office of the Chief Health Officer to determine whether the death was from COVID-19, or whether COVID was a contributing factor, in line with national criteria. Both were verified as being COVID-19 related deaths this morning.
A male in his 60s from a remote community in Western Australia, who had underlying health conditions, passed away at Royal Darwin Hospital on February 18.
A female in her 60s from a remote community in Central Australia, who had underlying health conditions, passed away at Alice Springs Hospital on February 17.
There have now been 19 COVID-19 related deaths recorded in the NT since the start of the pandemic.
There were 757 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the NT in the 24 hours to 8pm on 23 February 2022. Of these, 698 were positive cases from a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT).
There were 458 cases recorded in the Top End region, 142 in Central Australia, 39 in East Arnhem, 34 in the Big Rivers region, 28 in the Barkly region and 56 are under investigation.
There are currently 108 patients in hospital, with 23 patients requiring oxygen. There are seven patients in ICU.
The number of active cases in the NT is about 5,275.
