Legislation to establish an independent National Student Ombudsman is an important step toward ensuring current and future university students are fully supported while they study.
“We’ve been working closely with the Government on this important work, and we acknowledge this important milestone today,” Universities Australia Chief Executive Officer Luke Sheehy said.
“Our universities are committed to delivering the best experience possible for all students and the Government’s actions will complement the work we already undertake in this endeavour.
“We can and must do better to improve the whole university experience for our students and that means delivering in the classroom and across campus – this is what our students deserve.
“We’ll review the legislation in finer detail and engage with all parliamentarians to ensure the function is an ombudsman in the truest sense.
“Universities Australia continues to work with government and industry stakeholders to progress our own initiatives to improve student safety and we look forward to saying more on those soon.”
