Only Way Is Up

RAAF

RAAF Base Wagga was buzzing with pride and excitement for the career of 48 aviators who graduated from 1 Recruit Training Unit (1RTU) in early May.

Across a nine-week program, 1RTU prepared newly enlisted aviators for service in the Air Force.

The program not only honed their military skills, but also fostered qualities such as teamwork, self-discipline and respect for ADF values – attributes that will prepare them for the diverse challenges and responsibilities of their service to the nation.

Recruits were presented with the rank of Aircraftmen or Aircraftwoman, a huge milestone that represented the beginning of their ADF journey – most graduates will go on to undertake specialist training tailored to their role.

Chief of Personnel Lieutenant General Natasha Fox attended the graduation and addressed the aviators with sage advice.

“You form a part of a wonderful team who are embracing the challenges of the air domain, and professionalising service in the space and cyber domains,” Lieutenant General Fox said.

“Australia faces its most challenging strategic environment since the Second World War, and our circumstances have changed. You form a key component of the tapestry for our National Defence.

“As your careers progress and you experience the journey of service, know that you are never alone. We look after each other; you need only look to your left and right to see the beginnings of your military family.”
