Officers in Latrobe Valley including the Divisional Response Unit, Highway Patrol and Morwell police, along with the assistance of the Air Wing, and Dog Squad saturated the Latrobe area as part of Operation Black Kite.
Operation Black Kite took place on Monday night with a number of offences detected by police during this time.
The aim of the operation was to safely detect and apprehend people who put the community at risk by driving dangerously on the roads.
As a result, police made two arrests, issued a number of penalty notices and impounded one vehicle.
Acting Senior Sergeant Steve Owen said local police continued to be concerned by the number of drivers who failed to stop when requested by police.
“It’s disappointing that there are still road users making the conscious decision not to obey a direction from police,” said A/S/Sgt Owen.
“They are a danger to the community and they are breaking the law.
“As part of the arrests and intercepts made overnight, two of these were for people who allegedly failed to stop when asked by police.
“The safety of our community is paramount and police will continue to focus on these issues going forward.”
This resulted in the following:
• A 40-year-old woman from Traralgon was intercepted after allegedly running a red light and will be issued a penalty notice for traffic related infringements.
• A 32-year-old man from Beaconsfield returned a positive preliminary oral fluid test. He will be summonsed to appear at Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
• A 32-year-old man from Morwell will be charged on summons with failing to stop for police, assault police and related offences. He will appear at Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
• A 28-year-old woman from Morwell will be charged on summons with hinder police will appear at Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
• A 29-year-old male from Morwell was arrested in relation to allegedly possessing a drug of dependence. His vehicle was impounded at a cost of $1300. He has been charged for drug and traffic related offences and was remanded overnight to appear before Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court on 18 February. A 30 year old Traralgon male in the same car was issued with a penalty notice for possessing a controlled weapon. He has been charged with weapons offences and will appear before Latrobe Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
• A 23-year-old Coburg woman was intercepted and arrested in relation to an outstanding warrant. She was bailed to appear before a magistrates’ court at a later date.
