Operation Casuarina was launched by Queensland Police on September 27, with the aim to disrupt, deter and detect property crime committed in the region and enhance public safety.
Officers across the Townsville Metro area have charged 34 adults with 68 offences and 24 juveniles with 24 offences relating to a range of property crime related offences in the Townsville area.
In the past four days police arrested five juveniles and two adults on property related offences.
Police will allege that the charges laid to date relate to burglary and similar property offences committed across the Townsville suburbs of Idalia, North Ward, Kirwan and Mundingburra area over the past few weeks.
A 15-year-old Wulguru girl has been charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and is due to re-appear in Townsville Childrens Court on October 14.
A 14-year-old Kelso girl has been charged with one count each of enter premises and commit an indictable offence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, burglary and stealing. She has been remanded in custody and is due to re-appear in Townsville Childrens Court on October 6.
An 18-year-old Cranbrook woman has been charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on October 18.
A 12-year-old Rosslea girl has been charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and burglary, and has been dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
A 15-year-old Rosslea boy has been charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and burglary, and has been dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
An 18-year-old Nundah man has been charged with one count each of stealing and obstruct police, and is due appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on October 7.
A 17-year-old Condon boy has been charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possession of tainted property, and is due to appear in Townsville Childrens Court on October 6.
Townsville Crime Services Detective Inspector Jason Shepherd said, “This significant number of offenders charged in the first week of Operation Casuarina is a result of some remarkable police work and sends a clear message to these offenders that property crime will not be tolerated.
“We will continue to be relentless in our investigation of these offences and apprehension of the identified offenders to put them before the court.”
