559 domestic violence related charges have been laid during Operation Fair Play over the last two weeks.
The operation was enforced across Western Region between Sunday 26 September 2021 and Saturday 9 October 2021, targeting domestic violence related offences.
In NSW, police respond to more than 140,000 incidents of domestic and family violence per year. Women and children in NSW are statistically almost 40 per cent more likely to become victims.
The operation saw police across the Western Region conduct proactive checks targeting known offenders and providing additional support to at-risk victims
The operation focused on preventing further offences through Apprehended Domestic Violence Order compliance and other proactive domestic violence-related taskings.
During the operation, police conducted 2525 ADVO compliance checks and charged 390 people with 559 domestic-related offences including assault and breach AVO
Western Region Sponsor for Domestic Violence, Superintendent Steve Laksa, said police are committed to disrupting and preventing recidivist offending and are committed to helping victims of domestic violence.
“The actions taken by police highlight that anyone detected breaching apprehended violence orders will be identified and police won’t hesitate in bringing perpetrators to justice,” said Supt Laksa.
“It is important that people understand they have an obligation to report all incidents of domestic and family violence, not only to ensure perpetrators are held to account, but because it could save someone’s life.”
