A high-visibility operation has been carried out at Sydney International Airport, to detect and disrupt illegal activity occurring around the airport boundary.
This morning, 18 November 2020, Australian Border Force (ABF) officers including the Detector Dog Unit, carried out a search of the airport’s tarmac and land boundaries, including the road between the International and Domestic Terminals. NSW Police assisted ABF officers with a patrol of the waterside boundaries.
The purpose of the activity was to locate areas where trusted insiders could attempt to illegally move prohibited goods.
ABF Port Operations East Commander Danielle Yannopoulos said keeping the country’s airports safe is a priority for the ABF.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has seen the ABF broaden its operations, but this activity highlights our commitment to our core priority of protecting Australia’s border,” Commander Yannopoulos said.
“The ABF will not tolerate trusted insiders using their position to carry out illegal activities at any airport.”
