Orange Regional Gallery set to host exhibition by leading British sculptor Laurence Edwards

Orange Council

Orange Regional Gallery will host an exhibition of bronze sculptures by internationally acclaimed British artist Laurence Edwards from 4 February to 16 April 2023.

Developed in partnership with English Arts Centre, Messums Wiltshire, A Gathering of Uncertainties presents the culmination of 10 years of work by the artist and the first comprehensive survey of his work to be shown in Australia.

Orange City Council’s Services Policy Committee Chair, Cr Mel McDonell said this was a rare opportunity to not only see works by one of the UK’s leading figurative artists, but also hear directly from the artist.

A Gathering of Uncertainties by Laurence Edwards.

“We are honoured to be hosting this internationally significant exhibition right here in Orange, as well as welcoming the artist to our recently expanded, state-of-the-art gallery,” Cr McDonell said.

One of the few sculptors who casts his own work, Laurence Edwards is fascinated by human anatomy and his sculptures express the power and versatility of bronze.

Laurence Edwards will conduct an artist talk in the exhibition at 5.30pm on Friday 3 February, which will be followed by the official opening at 6pm by Messum Wiltshire director Johnny Messum.

Edwards will join journalist and arts commentator Fiona Gruber at 11am on Saturday 4 February for a conversation about the exhibition and his process, followed by a screening of Yoxman – While the Whole World Changes Tune, which follows the artist as he undertakes the creation of a monumental 26-foot figure for the Suffolk landscape.

“I expect this will be a very popular exhibition that will draw visitors from across the state and I encourage everyone to come along and see these compelling sculptures and hear from this significant artist” Cr McDonell said.

Bookings for all events can be made through Orange Regional Gallery’s events calendar.
