Pair caught drink driving

Two drivers have lost their licence after being caught drink driving overnight at McLaren Vale.

Just after 8pm on Tuesday 5 May, Aldinga patrols spotted a BMW sedan and Toyota utility travelling along Binney Road at speed and tried to pull them over. The driver of the utility stopped however, the driver of the BMW continued east along Binney Road. While patrols spoke with the driver of the utility, a secondary patrol searched for the BWM which was located a short time later driving through a paddock with it’s lights off before becoming stuck in a ditch.

The pair were breath tested with the driver of the BMW returning an alleged blood alcohol reading of 0.107 and the other driver returning an alleged blood alcohol reading of 0.150. A 21-year-old man from Whites Valley (BMW) and a 48-year-old man from McLaren Flat (Toyota) were both reported for drink driving and had their vehicles impounded for 28 days.

The BMW driver was also issued with an immediate six month loss of licence while the Toyota driver received an immediate 12 month loss of licence.

Both men will be summonsed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court at a later date.
