Parks Masterplan progresses following public consultation

NT Government

Territorians have a deep-rooted connection to our parks and reserves, feedback on the NT Parks Masterplan 2022-52 has revealed.

The Masterplan will provide a clear vision for the future of the Territory’s parks and reserves and will map out ways to enhance visitor enjoyment and community engagement, as well as exploring new business and economic opportunities in partnership with Traditional Owners.

The online discussion paper provided an opportunity for members of the public to offer feedback on the planning for the next 30 years for the Parks estate.

There were a total of 597 submissions received through 426 email responses, and 171 Have Your Say survey submissions, of which 96% were from Territorians.

The main messages from the consultation were that people want the biodiversity and cultural values respected and protected, with stronger support for management practices and improvements.

Territorians also indicated high levels of support for more access to Parks but were keen to see parks retain their untouched qualities and the sense of being wholly in nature when providing for tourism or recreational use.

The next stage of consultation, expected for release later this month, will provide Territorians the opportunity to comment on the draft plan before final release in November 2022.

The summary report detailing key themes and values is available at here.
