Pedestrian crossing to boost hospital safety

Works to build a pedestrian crossing outside Wimmera Base Hospital’s main entrance will start this week.

The crossing will be hard to miss, with prominent signage and speed cushions to alert drivers to the need to give way to pedestrians.

Infrastructure Director John Martin said Wimmera Health Care Group had been a key driver in the crossing’s planning.

“This crossing will provide a much safer location for patients and visitors to cross Baillie Street at the entrance to the hospital as well as other facilities in the area,” Mr Martin said.

“These works will start later this week and have an expected construction period of two to three weeks, dependent on weather.”

Meanwhile footpath alteration works at the corner of Firebrace Street and Roberts Avenue will cause minor disruption to pedestrians from Thursday until Sunday.

The works are necessary to reduce the gradient of the ramp that runs from the traffic lights to the paved footpath at 68 Firebrace Street.

The end result will provide people with a much smoother pavement to use on what is one of Horsham’s busiest footpaths.
