Playground Updates: Bayside

Bayside Council monitors the condition of 131 playgrounds, and plans upgrades based on the condition of the existing equipment and the demand for the facilities based on community feedback and consultation as well as population data.

Playgrounds at Kendall Reserve, Sans Souci and Heslehurst Reserve, Brighton Le Sands cater for local families with young children, and both are due for renewal.

Council has committed to upgrading the play equipment at Heslehurst Reserve with new equipment suitable for children 2-12 years of age, including swings with a variety of seats, two multi-play units with slides and climbing items, a spring rider and sensory play over vibrant new rubber under surfacing.

Most of the play equipment will be under the existing shade structure, which is in good condition, with other equipment located under the extensive mature tree canopy.

New seating, a litter bin and a drinking fountain are also included.

At this stage construction is expected to start in spring 2023 and is expected to be finished by the end of the year.

Kendal Reserve is on land owned by the Department of Education (DoE) and Council is currently seeking to renew its 50-year lease that is due to expire in 2025.

Council is waiting until an agreement is reached with the DoE on an extension of the lease before planning any upgrades for Kendal Reserve.
