Police arrest man over pursuit on Dukes Highway, South Australia

A man has been arrested after a pursuit on the Dukes Highway.

Police will allege that just after 9.30pm last night (Friday 19 July) a patrol detected a vehicle speeding on Granites Road, Tailem Bend.

The patrol attempted to stop the vehicle, but it failed to do so and the vehicle was pursued. Police terminated the pursuit for safety reasons and the vehicle was last seen travelling east on the Dukes Highway.

SA Police received numerous reports from other motorists as to the vehicles location on the highway, and patrols were able to move to safe locations to try and stop the vehicle.

Whilst driving on the highway, police will allege the driver drove his vehicle onto the incorrect side of the highway at a police car, forcing the police to take evasive action to avoid a crash.

At about 10.30pm, the vehicle stopped approximately 5km east of Coonalpyn and police safely arrested the driver.

The 33-year-old man from Reynella has been charged with aggravated acts to endanger life, drive dangerously to avoid police pursuit and exceeding the speed limit. He has been refused bail to appear in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court on Monday.

Police are appealing to anyone with information or possible dash cam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or go online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au
