Police arrest two after pursuit at Edinburgh, South Australia

Two men have been arrested following a pursuit in the northern suburbs overnight.

About 9.20pm on Thursday 1 October police spotted a green Mitsubishi Magna on Diment Road at Salisbury North. Checks revealed the car was unregistered and had been involved in a number of recent offences including petrol thefts.

Patrols attempted to stop the vehicle but it took off at speed away from them and a short pursuit commenced.

A short time later the police helicopter (PolAir) took over the pursuit and followed the car around the Edinburgh area for about 15 minutes.

Patrols were able to successfully spike the vehicle’s tyres and it came to a stop at the intersection of Bellchambers Road and Fisher Boulevard.

The driver of the car, a 30-year-old Rosewater man, and passenger, a 25-year-old Encounter Bay man, were arrested. The driver was charged with driving unregistered, unlicensed and uninsured, dangerous driving to escape police pursuit, and speed dangerous. The driver and passenger were charged with unlawful possession after a quantity of alcohol was found in the boot, suspected of being stolen.

The driver did not apply for bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court later today. The passenger was bailed to appear on 4 November.

The car was seized by police and towed from the scene.
