Police arrest two youths following stolen vehicle crash in Katherine

Northern Territory Police have arrested two youths after a stolen vehicle crashed in Katherine on Friday afternoon.

At around 2:20pm, police received reports that a white Toyota Prado had been stolen from a residence on Mott Crescent.

It is alleged a male youth entered the vehicle and drove it from the property by crashing through a metal gate.

A short time later, the allegedly stolen vehicle was sighted travelling outbound on Victoria Highway, where it allegedly swerved towards a police vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

At the intersection of Bicentennial Road and Victoria Highway, the driver allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle before losing control. The vehicle crossed onto the incorrect side of the road and collided with a tree.

Police attended the scene and arrested two male youths, aged 12 and 14.

St John Ambulance treated both youths at the scene before the 12-year-old was taken to hospital with a broken leg.

A 14-year-old driver was charged with multiple driving offences.

Investigations remain ongoing.
