Police Charge Man After Break And Enter At Newcastle

A man has been charged following an alleged break and enter at a home in Newcastle.

On Saturday 20 June 2026, police were called to a home on Rembrandt Drive, Merewether Heights, following reports of a break and enter.

At the scene, officers were told a door had allegedly been forced open and the home ransacked, with a handbag, jewellery, cash, laptop, and credit cards reported stolen.

Police will allege in court that later that day, eight fraudulent transactions occurred across Newcastle with the stolen cards.

Following extensive inquiries, officers attached to Newcastle City Police Distrct executed a search warrant at a home on Sun Hill Drive, Merewether Heights, about 11.30am yesterday (Tuesday 23 June 2026).

During the search, police allegedly located and seized several items of interest including a handbag, purse, cards, two gel baster firearms, two knuckledusters, a slingshot, and a taser.

A 41-year-old man was arrested nearby and taken to Newcastle Police Station.

There he was charged with 14 offences,

  • Dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception (seven counts)
  • Goods suspected stolen in/on premises (two counts)
  • Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit (two counts)
  • Break and enter house etc steal value less than or equal to $60000
  • Receive/dispose stolen property, and
  • Possess unauthorised prohibited firearm.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 16 July 2026.
