Police charge man after Hadfield armed robbery

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad have charged a 22-year-old Lalor man after shots were fired during an alleged armed robbery in Hadfield on Sunday 1 March.

It’s believed at least three men attended a supermarket on North Street about 8.45pm in a white van with false number plates.

Investigators allege a group of men entered the premises, threatened two attendants, aged 54 and 30 from Hadfield, with a firearm and demanded cash.

A struggle ensued between the 30-year-old victim and the Lalor man, during which it’s believed the firearm was discharged.

The other men fled the scene and the two attendants then held the Lalor man until police arrived.

The 30-year-old victim suffered a minor injury during the altercation and the Lalor man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Lalor man has since been released from hospital and charged with reckless conduct endangering life, attempted armed robbery, prohibited person possess firearm and bail related offences.

He appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this morning where he was further remanded to appear on 29 May.

Investigators are still appealing for information about the men who fled the scene.

They are described as slim build, were wearing dark coloured clothing and covering their faces with bandanas.

The investigation into the exact circumstances remains ongoing and anyone with information or who witnessed the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
