Police charge man after Heidelberg sexual assault

Police have charged a man after a girl was sexually assaulted in a toilet block in Heidelberg last Friday.

The 45-year-old man was charged with rape, sexual assault and false imprisonment.

He was remanded to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 30 July.

The charges follow a report to police that a 15-year-old girl was sexually assaulted inside a toilet block near a supermarket on Burgundy Street about 1.20pm on 30 April.

Detectives allege the Kew man followed the girl inside a cubical and sexually assaulted her.

The man then walked with the victim to a nearby hotel where she alerted staff and police were called.

The man was arrested shortly after.
