Police charge man after hit and run – Leichhardt

A man has been charged following a fail to stop crash in Sydney’s Inner West overnight that left a teenage boy hospitalised

About 8.30pm (Friday 16 February 2024), emergency services were called to the intersection of Reuss and Excelsior Streets, Leichhardt, following reports of a crash.

Officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area Command arrived to find a 13-year-old boy had been riding a bike when he was hit by a car.

The vehicle allegedly continued along Reuss Street, failing to stop and assist.

The teen suffered serious injuries and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick in a stable condition.

About 1.30pm (Saturday 17 February 2024), a 22-year-old man presented to Newtown Police Station where he was arrested and charged with fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing grievous bodily harm and not give particulars to injured person.

The 22-year-old was granted conditional bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 27 March 2024.
