Police charge man after Prahran fire

Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a building fire in Prahran overnight.

The 28-year-old Watsonia man has received 20 charges including:

• criminal damage by fire arson,

• burglary,

• criminal damage with intent to damage/destroy (x2),

• handle stolen goods,

• possess drug of dependence namely alleged cocaine, heroin, LSD, diazepam & cannabis,

• commit indictable offence whilst on bail (x2), and

• contravene conditions of bail.

The charges follow a building fire in Greville Street about 10.45pm.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident following reports a man was seen in the area with an alleged blow torch.

A number of evidentiary items were located by police shortly after the incident and the man arrested when he entered the scene about 12.45am.

He is expected to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
