Police charge man after threatening taxi driver in Bondi

A man has been charged after allegedly threatening a taxi driver in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.

Just after 8pm on Friday (22 November 2019), a taxi picked up a passenger in Randwick, after being flagged down.

The driver was directed to go to Bondi Beach before the passenger attempted to redirect him to Cabramatta. Following an argument, the taxi continued to Bondi.

During the journey, the passenger is alleged to have yelled at a number of pedestrians and the driver stopped on Bondi Road.

The man is alleged to have lifted his shirt to display a handle before threatening the driver who refused to continue.

Believing it was a knife, the driver got out and sought help. The passenger also got out and fled.

Officers from Eastern Beaches attended and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, a 33-year-old man was arrested at a Bondi home last night (Saturday 23 November 2019).

He was taken to Waverley Police Station and charged with armed with intent commit indictable offence, common assault, and destroy or damage property.

The man has been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 24 November 2019).
