Police charge man with murder after Coolgardie incident

Police are continuing to investigate two incidents which occurred in the early hours of the morning on 17 April 2020. Police can confirm the two incidents are believed to be linked.

The first incident was a suspicious fire at a unit in Johnston Street, South Kalgoorlie that occurred around 2am.

The second incident involved a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on Sylvester Street, Coolgardie at around 4:55 am. As a result of the impact, the pedestrian, a 43 year old man, died from his injuries.

Homicide Detectives have charged a 35 year old man from South Kalgoorlie with Murder in relation to the death of the pedestrian in Coolgardie. He is due to appear in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on 29 April 2020.

The investigation into both incidents is ongoing and detectives urge anyone with information relating to either incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au. People providing information to Crime Stopper can remain anonymous if they wish.

Police are also seeking any footage/ dash-cam vision from any vehicles that may have been travelling on the Great Eastern Highway/ Bayley Street Coolgardie area between about 4:30am and 5:30am on Friday, 17 April 2020.
