Police charge two men after putting Air Wing at risk

Police have charged two men for allegedly pointing a laser at the police Air Wing in separate incidents overnight.

In the first instance the helicopter was flying above the Tarneit area when a laser was allegedly shone at the aircraft several times, about 9.40pm on 24 September.

Air Wing officers directed police on the ground to an address on Hummingbird Avenue in Tarneit shortly after.

Attending officers located a laser and arrested a 36-year-old Tarneit man at the premises.

He has been charged with 21 offences including endangering the safe operation of an aircraft, possessing a prohibited weapon, reckless conduct endangering life and assault emergency worker.

The Tarneit man has been remanded to appear at Werribee Magistrates’ Court later today.

In the second instance, the helicopter was flying above the Werribee area when a laser was allegedly shone at the aircraft several times, about 1am on 25 September.

Air Wing officers directed police on the ground to an address on Bronson Circuit in Hoppers Crossing shortly after.

An 18-year-old St Albans man was arrested at the premises.

He has been charged with endangering the safe operation of an aircraft, possessing a prohibited weapon, reckless conduct endangering life, committing indictable offences whilst on bail and assault emergency worker.

The St Albans man has been remanded to appear at Werribee Magistrates’ Court later today.
