Police charge woman after injuring policeman in CBD

A police officer suffered minor injuries after being dragged almost 50 metres by a vehicle in Sydney’s CBD yesterday.

About 6.05pm (Friday 6 November 2020), officers attached to Redfern Region Enforcement Squad stopped a white Hyundai i30 on Lower Fort street on suspicion of drug activity.

A woman, aged 18, was sitting in the driver’s seat and as police opened her door she allegedly drove away, with one Senior Constable dragged by the vehicle for 50 metres before he let go.

About 6.25pm, the Hyundai was observed on nearby Bent Street. As police approached the vehicle, the driver allegedly attempted to drive away again, colliding with the door of an unmarked police car.

She then allegedly drove onto the footpath and reversed into a nearby taxi, before continuing to drive across three lanes of traffic and colliding with the same police car.

The driver was arrested and taken to Day Street Police Station.

A search was conducted, with police allegedly located $1,235 in cash and 1.5 grams of cocaine within the vehicle and a further 7.6 grams of cocaine concealed in the woman’s handbag and underwear.

The Merrylands woman was taken to Day Street Police Station where she was charged with the following offences:

  • Supply prohibited drug
  • Not obey direction of police/authorised person (x2)
  • Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous (x2)
  • Use etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention etc (x3)
  • Assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm (x2)
  • Police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly
  • Not give particulars to other driver
  • Deal with property proceeds of crime
  • Supply prohibited drug (indictable)
  • Driver never licensed

She was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 7 November 2020).

The Senior Constable suffered grazing to his arm and leg; he did not require medical treatment.
