Police investigate armed robbery at Surfers Paradise

Police have charged three teenage boys, following the armed robbery of a man at Surfers Paradise overnight.

It will be alleged that around 11.05pm, one of the teens snatched a mobile phone from a 24-year-old man at a bus-stop on Cypress Avenue and ran. The 24-year-old gave chase and caught up with the boy approximately 40 metres away where a physical altercation ensued. It is alleged the 24-year-old was threatened with knives before the group fled into a carpark between Cypress Avenue and Palm Avenue. The victim received a minor laceration to his left elbow.

Police conducted patrols of the area and located three teenage boys on a tram nearby. A subsequent search allegedly located the man’s stolen mobile phone and two knives in their possession.

A 15-year-old Bahrs Scrub boy and 15-year-old Meadowbrook boy have each been charged with one count of armed robbery in company with violence whilst armed.

A 15-year-old Waterford boy was charged with one count of robbery in company.

Each will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

It will be further alleged that around 10.20pm, the boys approached a 16-year-old boy on The Esplanade, threatened him with a knife and demanding property. The victim showed the group that he did not have any property and the teenagers fled down Elkhorn Avenue in an easterly direction. The 16-year-old was not injured during the incident and opted not to make a complaint.

It will be further alleged that around 10.52pm, the group approached a 24-year-old man at the intersection of The Esplanade and Hanlan Street, threatened him with a knife and demanded property. The victim handed over less than $10 in coins and the group left. The 24-year-old was not injured during the incident and opted not to make a complaint.
