Police investigate attempted armed robbery at Southport

Police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a service station at Southport overnight.

Around 9pm the 50-year-old male store employee saw a man acting suspiciously outside the Nerang Street business and directed a customer inside the store to leave.

The attendant then retreated to a back room.

The man entered the store before the 59-year-old male customer could leave and threatened him with a firearm while making demands for money.

After the customer advised the man that he was not an employee and could not open the till, he fled the scene empty-handed.

The man is described as being aged in his 20’s and wearing a black hoodie, sunglasses and shorts.

No one was physically injured in the incident.

Investigations are ongoing.
