Police lay charges – Stolen motor vehicles in Darwin

Northern Territory Police have made arrests after multiple units apprehended three individuals who stole two motor vehicles yesterday afternoon.

At 12:30pm, three male youths allegedly stole a Green Toyota Hilux from Darwin City before travelling to Bunnings Palmerston and stealing a second vehicle, a white Toyota Hilux.

Strike Force Trident, Dog Operations Unit, Darwin Traffic Operations and General Duties members quickly responded and tracked the vehicles past Noonamah before deploying tyre deflation devices on the Cox Peninsula road.

The Green Hilux quickly came to a stop, and police arrested the sole occupant without incident.

The White Hilux continued driving before failing to negotiate a turn into Hughes Airstrip and coming to a stop.

Two occupants fled from the vehicle on foot through smouldering bushland with Patrol Dog Drax tracking and apprehending one of the offenders with the second offender being apprehended after a lengthy foot chase.

All three offenders, aged 16, were charged with multiple property offences. Two of the youths were remanded to appear in court today with the other youth bailed to appear in court at a later date.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Dale Motter-Barnard from Strike Force Trident said, “These impressive arrests are a testament to the dedication and hard work of our police force, who are committed to keeping our communities safe.

“It’s a difficult and often thankless job, but police officers are dedicated to protecting and serving their communities, no matter what it takes.”
