Police Make Arrest – Domestic Violence In Alice Springs 19 June

The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested a 26-year-old man in relation to a domestic violence incident that occurred in Alice Springs this morning.

At 5am, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received a report of an assault at a residence in Jay Creek. It is alleged a 26-year-old man, armed with a stick and an edged weapon, had assaulted his partner aged in her 30s as well as another woman and a teenage child who intervened in the assault.

The victims left the scene and were met near Alice Springs by police and St John Ambulance. The child suffered a minor laceration to their arm, and the women both suffered multiple non-life-threatening injuries. All three were conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital.

The 26-year-old offender was subsequently arrested in the vicinity of the hospital, where he received treatment for an injury to his arm suffered prior to arrest. He remains under police guard with charges expected to follow.

Around 1:20pm, police investigating the incident attended Jay Creek and discovered the residence had been burnt down. A crime scene was established, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
