Police seek witnesses to assault in Alice Springs 22 June

Northern Territory Police are urging witnesses to an assault incident in which a woman suffered serious facial injuries in Alice Springs on Sunday morning, to contact them.

Off duty Strike Force Viper members came to the aid of a 41 year old woman who was attacked by a 16 year old female near the Bath Street Taxi rank at around 6am on Sunday.

The woman suffered serious facial injuries as a result of the assault and was taken to the Alice Springs Hospital for treatment.

Plain Clothes Constable Dana Rhode of Strike Force Viper said police were seeking public assistance to identify two men who are alleged to have been at the taxi rank at the time of the assault.

“We’ve received information of two men witnessing the verbal exchange between the two parties prior to the assault taking place,” said Plain Clothes Constable Rhode.

“As with any investigation, all information assists so we’re seeking public assistance to identify or encourage these two witnesses to contact police and share their information as to the circumstances surrounding the assault.”

Off duty members arrested the 16-year-old female who was taken to the Alice Springs Watch House and charged. The youth has since been remanded in custody to appear before court at a later date.
