Police update 1: Serious assault in Broadbeach, QLD

Gold Coast detectives investigating a fight early this morning in which a 21-year-old NSW man sustained critical head injuries have charged two men with affray.

Police have interviewed a large number of witnesses and those involved in the disturbance, with detectives appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the fight, or have any relevant information, to contact them.

Two 19-year-old NSW men have been denied police bail and are due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday, December 2.

Investigations by Gold Coast CIB are continuing.

Initial media release issued earlier today:

Police are investigating after a man sustained a critical head injury during an altercation in Broadbeach overnight.

Initial information suggests a 21-year-old man was walking along Surf Parade this morning when he became involved in a verbal exchange with a group of men and women around 2.40am (November 30).

The group allegedly continued to follow the man before an altercation occurred and the 21-year-old was punched, causing him to fall and hit his head.

He was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police established a crime scene at the corner of Margaret Avenue and Surf Parade and a number of people are currently assisting with inquiries.

Investigations are continuing.
