Police update: Armed robbery in Aitkenvale, QLD

Police have charged a man following two armed robberies and an attempted armed robbery in Townsville over the weekend.

It will be alleged at around 10pm on July 5 a man entered a service station on Nathan Street in Aitkenvale, armed with a knife.

The man allegedly demanded money and cigarettes from a staff member before fleeing the scene on foot.

Investigators will further allege the same man entered a fish and chip shop on Fulham Road in Gulliver at around 7.40pm last night, armed with a knife.

It will be alleged the man unsuccessfully demanded money from staff before leaving.

Police will also allege the man then attended a service station on Ross River Road in Aitkenvale just after 8.30pm, where he produced a knife and demanded cigarettes, before fleeing on foot.

No one was physically injured in any of the incidents.

Following investigations officers took a man into custody at an address in Gulliver after 10pm last night.

A 46-year-old man has been charged with two counts of armed robbery and one count of attempted armed robbery.

He is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on July 8.
