Portsea has been named Australia’s Top Tiny Tourism Town in the 2026 National Top Tourism Town Awards – a proud achievement for the village and a wonderful result for the Mornington Peninsula.
The national honour follows Portsea’s earlier win as Victoria’s Tiny Tourism Town, elevating one of the Peninsula’s most recognisable coastal destinations onto the national stage.
The award is a testament to the passion and commitment of Portsea’s local businesses, community groups, residents and volunteers, whose hard work and advocacy helped secure national recognition for the town.
Renowned for its dramatic ocean beaches, Portsea offers visitors a distinctive blend of natural beauty, coastal character and significant heritage. Landmark attractions including Point Nepean National Park and the Quarantine Station continue to draw people to the area, while the village’s charm, hospitality and broad appeal for all ages make it a standout destination.
The accolade is a significant endorsement of the Peninsula’s visitor economy and reinforces its reputation as one of Australia’s premier tourism destinations.
Each year, the Mornington Peninsula welcomes around 8 million visitors, contributing approximately $1.8 billion to the local economy and supporting more than 5,000 jobs.
Mayor Cr Stephen Batty welcomed the national result and thanked everyone who contributed to Portsea’s successful campaign.
“While Portsea has taken out this title, the achievement also shines a light on the exceptional visitor experiences found right across the Mornington Peninsula,” Cr Batty said.
Councillor Cam Williams was honoured to accept the award on behalf of Portsea and the wider Mornington Peninsula community, recognising the collective effort behind this achievement.

Ward Councillor Andrea Allen paid tribute to the businesses, clubs, volunteers, residents and community members who worked together to highlight the qualities that make the town unique.
“It reflects the spirit of a community that cares deeply about its place, welcomes visitors warmly and helps create the memorable experiences that make our region so special,” Cr Allen said.
Portsea’s recognition as Australia’s Top Tiny Tourism Town is a fitting acknowledgement of a destination that continues to capture the imagination of visitors.
