Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet

Two new positive COVID-19 cases have been recorded in the Northern Territory in the past 24 hours.

A 30 year old female who arrived on the repatriation flight from London 16 January 2021 has tested positive for COVID-19.

A 16 month old female who arrived on the repatriation flight from India on 19 January 2021 has also tested positive for COVID-19.

Both patients are asymptomatic and are under the care of the AUSMAT team at the NT Centre for National Resilience.

In addition to this, the genomic sequencing results for the two positive cases from the international defence cohort have shown they are not connected to the UK-strain or any other more transmissible strains of the virus.

Since repatriation flights to the Northern Territory began on 23 October 2020:

  • 3054 international arrivals have undertaken quarantine at the Howard Springs Centre for National Resilience

  • A total of 61 positive COVID-19 cases have been reported.

The total number of cases diagnosed in the Northern Territory is 99. All cases have been related to international or interstate travel, with no cases of community transmission.
