Premier fails to rule out new increase to power bills 14 September 2023

Tas Labor

More power price pain appears to be on the way for Tasmanians after the Premier today failed to rule out a new bill increase.

When asked a very serious question about TasNetworks’ increasing transmission charges by seven per cent next year, adding another $70 to the average power bill, the Premier went nowhere near an answer, instead reverting to jokes while he waited for a sticky note to be passed over his shoulder.

With Tasmanian power prices already $500 more than they need to be because of Jeremy Rockliff’s failure to cap power prices, the Premier’s latest price rise could send family budgets over the edge.

Tasmanians are being forced to make the impossible choice between heating and eating, but the Premier doesn’t seem to care at all.

How many more price rises will the Premier inflict on Tasmanians before he finally backs Labor’s plan to cap power prices?

A Labor Government will cap power prices at 2.5 per cent a year for all households and small businesses in the first 100 days of government and we will also re-establish the electricity rebate scheme that was in place in 2018.

Tasmanians deserve to pay Tasmanian prices for Tasmanian power and a Labor government will ensure this happens both now and in the future.
